On a Saturday afternoon, you may drive by someone’s house to see them on a ladder, twenty feet in the air, using a pressure washer to clean their vinyl siding. They have the nozzle about two inches away from the siding, blasting away. They bought the highest psi machine at Lowes or Home Depot, because that’s what the guy behind the counter said would be best to clean their home.

Now that homeowner doesn’t understand what happened after his siding dries, because tt looks like Zorro just stopped by for a visit.

Time after time, more damage is being done by homeowners and “Weekend Only Companies” with a pressure washer. A lot of people think they can refinish there deck by blasting away the old stain off of their cedar. When it comes to cleaning any wood surface, low pressure with the right chemicals will successfully remove most stains on decks. There is no need to try and “blast” away dirt and stain off the deck. Chances are those black specks you are seeing is what is called artilerary fungus or “shotgun” fungus. This kind of fungus comes from mulch around the home. In conclusion, if you decide to wash your own home be very careful and be safe. There is more to pressure washing than just hooking up a hose to pressure washer and pulling the trigger.
