The last few days have been terrible for Missouri residents affected by the flooding. Many of our friends and family have be affected by this disaster that has hit areas such as Valley Park, Eureka, Pacific, and surrounding communities.
According to the Associated Press: "The Meramec River is causing problems in Valley Park. The St. Louis County community has had many floods before, and finally built a levee in 2005. But unprecedented rainfall of up to eight inches over the past couple of days in the Meramec Valley has caused the river to rise dramatically. Record and near-record flooding is projected in several towns -- Pacific, Eureka, Fenton and Valley Park.
The National Weather Service expects the Meramec to reach 40 feet at Valley Park by early Saturday. That would top the 1982 record of 39.7 feet. The levee supposedly can handle up to 43 feet at the most. By midday, city officials were still debating whether to force evacuation of the one-third of the town's 6,500 residents who live in the flood-prone part of town."
